Oslo

Day 18 (15 July 2017)

25min flight from Helsinki to Oslo. Arrive Oslo at 12.40pm.

Check into Clarion Collection Hotel Folketeateret. An interesting hotel that used to be a theater. The breakfast buffet was the best we had throughout our entire trip. We were greeted by a giant Kate Moss statue when we exit the hotel. An introduction, perhaps, of Olso, the place of many beautiful, weird, interesting statues and sculptures.

It was a sunny and warm day when we arrived.  As we learned from the last 17 days in Scandinavia, non-rainy warm day is rare even in summer, and therefore when the sun does come out, it is best to cram in as much outdoor activities as we can. So we walked from our hotel to Vigelandsparken.

Vigelandsparken (Vigeland Sculpture Park). We have to pay AUD$6 per person to use a smelly toilet. And because I was super hungry, we had no choice but to cough out AUD$40 for a cold open sandwich (aka a small slice of bread with a couple slices of meat). We have been warned by many people that Olso is an expensive place. But this is just ridiculous!

Anyway, back to the sculptures...

Hmmm okay.

Weird.

This is me when I learn how much I have to pay to go to the toilet.

Don't even know what's going on here.

We hang around for ages before we can get this shot with no one in the background.

Unicorn.

Dinner at Den Glade Gris. Smoked whale from the Norwegian Sea, served with sour cream, red onion, ruccola and lingonberries. J's first taste of whale and I don't think he is impress. I refuse to touch it.

Pull pork sandwich.

Reindeer sausage with pickled red onion and potatoes in Dijon mustard.

And some random photos from our walk.

Day 19 (16 July 2017)

We were lucky enough to get a spot for the guided tour in the Royal Palace. The guided tour is the only way to go inside the palace. Security is tight in the palace and no photos are allowed. Because the English guided tours are fully booked for the day, we had to go on the Norwegian one and read from a piece of paper the English translation.

Olso City Hall. From the outside, it looks like a boring building. But inside, it is amazing.

It started to rain quite heavily. So we went on the hop on hop off bus and stayed on the bus for a couple of loops. We finally got off and visit the Viking Ship Museum.

The sun came out again in the mid afternoon. We had vafle (Norwegian waffles) at Aker Brygge, and then explore the area and Tyuvholmen.

Oslo Opera House.

This ends our time in Olso. Wish we could spend another day here because there are so many things to see and do here.
